Set in the heart of the medieval university city of
Cambridge, The Leys seeks to stimulate all pupils to the greatest possible
academic, creative and athletic achievement. The school attracts teachers
of high quality, many of them examiners, with close links to the
University. A wide range of subjects is offered at GCSE and A level.
Pupils' work is carefully monitored throughout by their academic tutors.
Teaching is enhanced by a rich programme of seminars, visits and
discussions with contributions from members of the University. |
Sporting
Facilities
Set in extensive grounds, The Leys has an enviable range of sporting facilities, from a state-of-the-art Sports Hall and floodlit all-weather pitch, to an indoor heated swimming pool and a boathouse on the river. In addition to primary sports, we offer rowing, sailing, water polo, martial arts, squash, tennis, badminton, volleyball, basketball, aerobics and weights. |
The Creative
Arts
Our Theatre, Drama Studio, Music School and Art, Design and Technology Centre are open from 7.30 a.m. every day. Pupils perform, design, conduct, direct and stage-manage, under excellent supervision. In addition to the structured music life of the school, ranging from a symphony orchestra to wind , swing and jazz bands and choral singing at Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's Cathedral, individuals contribute to a thriving informal music scene. |
剑桥的专上学院：
最早在剑桥出现的学院是建于1284年的PETERHOUSE学院，到14世纪的上半叶，剑桥已拥有许多著名的学府，其中有CLARE学院（1326年），PEMBROKE（1342年），GONVILLE
AND CAIUS学院（1348年），TRINITY
HALL学院（1350年），CORPUS
CHRIST学院（1352年）。
在15到16世纪的王国时代，由于王国的兴盛，许多新的学院被建立了起来，它们大都是历代的国王与王后，以及主教和贵族们花费巨资兴建的，正因为如此，剑桥的每一幢建筑，每一处园林，每一条街道都是700年来英伦建筑的典范。在这个时期里出现的学院有：基督学院（CHRIST’S，建于1505年）、国王学院（KING’S，建于1441年）
、王后学院（QUEEN’S，建于1448年）、JESUS（1496年）、圣约翰学院（St.
JOHN’S，建于1511年）、圣三一学院（TRINITY，建于1546年）、EMMANUEL（1584年）。
